The Story

Year-round low country fly fishing at its finest, convenient to Hilton Head, Charleston, and Savannah. Old historic Beaufort is in the center of it all with literally hundreds of square miles of tidewaters and grassy marshes to fish. The fishing possibilities are endless. Enjoy sight casting to redfish, cobia, sea trout, and crevalle jacks with fly or light tackle. Come spend a half or full day on the bow of a flats boat with one of our seasoned captains. We are home of "The Redfish School" for advanced sight casting to redfish and other saltwater species.

Date Range

Bay Street Outfitters is open year-round.

What is Provided to Customer

All rods, terminal tackle, and flies are included. Our guides will also carry a cooler, ice, water, snacks, lunch on full days, and a camera to take photos.

Region/Terrain Where You Fish

Trips meet and depart from one of seven landings in Beaufort County. We fish from flats boats or wade the inshore marshland waters of the low country: Hilton Head Island and Beaufort, South Carolina.

Typical Weather by Season

Weather is tropical here but we still have all four seasons. The warmer months can have tropical thunderstorms but those are usually in the afternoon or evening. Winter provides great clear-water fishing on the low tide and generally doesn't have really cold temps. We fish year-round.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Where are your nearest airports?
A. Our nearest airports are in Savannah, Georgia or Charleston, South Carolina for commercial flights. Private planes can use Frogmore Airport on Lady’s Island. Historic Beaufort has great inns and restaurants right downtown.

Species You Fish for by Season

Redfish, year-round. Reds are fished for with 7-, 8-, or 9-weights and crab, shrimp, or minnow patterns, from flats boats on mud flats or wade fishing on grass flats. Cobia can be sight cast to from a boat from April 15 to June 15; it’s the only place cobia come inshore in such high numbers. Trout, ladyfish, flounder, bluefish, and jacks can be found in the summer.

Our Fly Shop

Sporting lifestyle shop for men and women, with a huge selection of travel and outdoor clothing and tackle. We do offer lunch on all of our full-day trips and can help make accommodations at local inns or B&Bs.

What Should Customers Bring?

Sunscreen, camera, lightweight clothing that has UV protection, a jacket for cool mornings, and non-marking shoes.

Sample of Typical Itinerary

We provide half, ¾, and full days and can handled multi-boat trips if need be. We confirm trips with a credit card and have a 72-hour cancellation policy. All forms of payment are accepted and trips are not charged until after the trip has been completed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great times with Tuck and Bay Street I met Tuck Scott several years ago when I attended an Orvis saltwater fly fishing class at the Oldfield Club in South Carolina. I was immediately impressed with Tuck’s knowledge of and passion for fishing, particularly low country flats fishing. He adapted his teaching style to address the skill level and experience of each participant in the class and, in my case, was able to diagnose and correct some flaws in my casting motion that I’d developed over years of self-taught bad habits. Since that time, I have taken several trips from the northeast to Beaufort, SC to fish with Tuck. It is a fantastic fishery with a seemingly endless number of flats, all of which Tuck knows front to back in every tide condition. Tuck’s effort as a guide is extraordinary, though he would never let you know how much work goes into preparing for and running a trip. He is a pleasure to spend time with on the boat and is genuinely excited to share his knowledge of the fishery with his clients. Tuck will put you on fish and you’ll have a great time as he does that. Bay Street is a first-class operation. I would (and have) recommend(ed) both Tuck and the outfitter without reservation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Capt. Owen Plaier made our day Really nice time out on the open water for my son, Brandon and I. We were mullet fishers today but Owen kept us in the game and enjoying the time together. Score: Brandon: 2 Redfish, Keith: 0; video games: off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Had the opportunity to fish with Captain Tuck Scott and I wasn't disappointed. He was great to be out with and he knew the area very we;;, putting me in casting range of many, many reds. This eventually led to my first ever redfish, and it was on the fly.I cam't wait to get back and go again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great guide from Bay Street Outfitters Recently enjoyed my second booking with Richard Sykes. Truly a great guide with a relaxed southern style that had me on fish in skinny waters of Beaufort. His knowledge of the area and the fishery was satisfying and I look forward to another trip with Richard in the future. Thanks Bay Street for the hook up!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great day on the water Brandon spent the AM with his friend Josh on the calm water with Cpt. Tuck Scott while Cpt. Chris put his dad and I on the Redfish right away. We lost count of the number of Lady fish, jacks and sea trout we caught. Very friendly, and they know the water well. First class.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Guide, Great Day Have been on more then a few guided trips and our time with Tuck Scott was simply the best trip that I have ever been on. My daughter and I had a blast. I think it was because with other guides they will put you on some fish (or not) and head hastily back to the dock. With Tuck you got the impression that he never thought about the dock and that he just wanted us to have a great experience and we did. Many thanks to Tuck for doing such a fine job and Tony for finding such a top notch guide for BSO.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice day on the flats Cpt. Tuck Scott spent the AM with my son and I on a windy summer day. The Redfish were keeping to themselves but the action on the boat with fishing tales and hope lasted just fine. Cpt. Scott knows the area well and we stopped by BSO in Beaufort later to find a well stocked store and friendly staff.
