Don't bring a thing!!! I provide all the fly tackle and flies for mako shark trips. Orvis rods and reels plus custom once piece rods for very large makos (300 lbs or larger).
I also provide lunch/beverages from the Dana landing Markets award winning deli.
Non alcoholic beverages
I don't include a CA state fishing license. this can be purchased the day of our trip at the landing prior to leaving the dockAlso available is a combination week with time at both Cinco Rios Lodge and Estancia Del Zorro. Please inquire with Orvis Adventures about these special packages.

Think big!!!! large saltwater reels with 500 yards of 30 lb Dacron backing with a 12 to 13 wt floating line.
- 120 lb single strand stainless Steele bite leaders
- large tube flies with foam popper heads (orange/red)
- Polarized glasses (amber lenses)
- Deck shoes
- Rain jacket/fleece
- Hat
- Motion sickness medication if your prone to sea sickness
(this is more of a precaution since the waters off San Diego a fairly calm).
Species:
Mako sharks are the primary target for the adventurous saltwater fly angler, looking for a world-class fishing experience.
Mako ranging from 40 to 300 lbs are common from May through early November.
Anglers of any skill level welcome, from beginner to advanced.
Season:
May through November.
Prime season is June through October
Region/Terrain:
San Diego is known as "Americas Finest City" for good reason. A perfect year-round climate with average daytime temperatures around 68 degrees and low humidity makes it a dream four-season destination.
Mako season is May through November. Pacific ocean conditions are mild with light to moderate afternoon sea breezes and clear skies.
We fish one to six miles off the coast within sight of land.
Typical Weather:
May/June Overcast skies in the morning, clearing to sunnier afternoons. 68 to 75 degrees F for day time high temperatures.
July thru November Sunny, warm and dry.
Ocean temps 64 to 74 degrees F
