The Story

Go fly fishing on the Wallowa and Grande Ronde Rivers with Orvis-endorsed Eastern Oregon River Outfitters. We came to be out of our love and desire for catching quality fish among remote beauty. Northeast Oregon provides all of that while floating and fishing the "Wild and Scenic" Grande Ronde and Wallowa Rivers. Whether you are looking for a single day of fishing, or a multi-day camp trip, our knowledgeable and professional guides focus on every detail of the day. From the time we meet until you are happily on your way, your satisfaction, enjoyment, and safety are our top priorities while sharing a great experience on the water.

We offer both guided day trips and guided multi-day camp trips. The remote region that we operate in provides us not only with unpressured, world-class wild rainbow trout and steelhead fishing, but also with wilderness scenery and wildlife viewing that is sure to impress any nature lover. All of our multi-day camp trips operate on the roadless, "Wild and Scenic" section of the Grande Ronde River. Nestled within the blue mountains, the dramatic river canyon and mixed coniferous forests create a beautiful and remote backdrop for a fishing expedition. Our local guides enjoy explaining the history and archeology of the region while also placing you in the most productive pieces of water. We always say, be ready to cast a lot, as your guide will continuously row you from the best riffle to run while you continue to fish in between. Add in the abundant number of rainbow trout, some being measured in pounds, and not inches, and each day is sure to engage and bring success for anglers of all skill levels. Steelhead season also adds another element to the fun as we begin to fish a wide array of tactics throughout the day, while often stopping to spey cast and swing flies. Depending on the season, we will either operate out of our 17ft aluminum drift boats or our 14ft fishing rafts. Both offer a comfortable and effective place to cast and fish, while your guide places the boat in the best water.

Early Summer: June-July. As the river begins to drop and clear from spring runoff, the trout fishing heats up as large hatches of caddis, mayflies, and stoneflies begin their yearly cycle. By mid-June, we start to see prolific numbers of golden stoneflies, creating explosive dry-fly fishing for the large wild rainbow trout. With warmer weather, blooming foliage, and exciting fishing, this is an incredible time to be on either the Wallowa or Grande Ronde.

Fall: September-November. The fall season begins with spectacular rainbow trout fishing in early September into October when steelhead begin to arrive. Many of these trips create a unique fly-fishing experience as you target both trout and steelhead throughout the day. October through November offers the prime season at catching a Grande Ronde River steelhead, as we begin to Spey cast and swing wet and dry flies on some of the best runs the Grande Ronde has to offer.

Winter: December-March. The Grande Ronde and Wallowa rivers can both have good fishing opportunities in the winter depending on weather and water conditions. With a steelhead season that goes well into March finding, a good weather window to utilize can give anglers the opportunity at catching these incredible fish throughout the winter. The same can be said for the rainbow trout fishing, it is not uncommon to get into trophy rainbows throughout the winter months as well.

While the Grande Ronde and Wallowa rivers are known for the healthy runs of summer steelhead, they also provide world-class, wild rainbow trout fishing, with many fish being talked about in pounds, not inches. .

The Grande Ronde and Wallowa River lay in the remote NE corner of Oregon. Surrounded by stunning 9,000 ft. peaks, and beautiful evergreen forests, these rugged river canyons create one of the most beautiful fly-fishing destinations.

Typical Weather:

In the rugged terrain of NE Oregon, we get every bit of all four seasons. However, generally by mid-April, we begin to see nice spring days into the ’70s, getting up into the ’80s and ’90s throughout summer. In September, we are often greeted by great fall weather, warm during the day and cooling off by night. As we enter October and into November, we start to see the first freeze of the year with temperatures ranging from freezing into the ’50s.

Rates start from: $450.

What is Provided:

All camp trips guests are provided with all necessary fishing equipment, tackle, on the river accommodations, meals, and non-alcoholic beverages. You are only responsible for personal clothing, an Oregon fishing license, and any alcoholic beverages.

On steelhead trips, we recommend 7-wt. and 8-wt. single hand rods. For Spey rods, we like both 6- and 7-wt. switch rods with Skagit shooting head, and 6-wt. and 7-wt. 12'6" or 13' rods with both Skagit and Scandi shooting heads.

For all trips we encourage guests to bring a good raincoat, polarized sunglasses, a sun hat, camera, their own reusable water bottle, and sunscreen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These guys are amazing This year will be my third trip with Austin and Andrew. I am so looking forward to it. Both times were multi-day trips, first in AK and then on the Grand Ronde. They are professional, knowledgable, get you into fish, have great gear, make great food. Stree tacos, fresh cobbler in a dutch oven, etc, I can't recommend their multi-days enough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent experience with EO River Outfitters! Our group of three couples fished the Grand Ronde last fall with Austin and the team of guides and support crew. The whole trip was excellent, from the scenery to the food to the guiding. They know every bend and current in the river and quickly adapt their guiding to each person’s level of experience. The crew is cheerful, friendly and super efficient. Lots of fish, lots of laughs, lots of memories. We’ll definitely be back!

Great fishing, guiding, and scenery with fantastic accommodations. We fished and camped our way down the river...with awesome food and drink each day. EOO and their crew make this “don’t miss” kind of trip. The fishing on this trip was super fun, lots of fish caught by our group. Thanks for the outstanding trip, can’t wait for the next trip!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Positively the Best I have done the Wallawa - Grande Rhonde 5 day float with the incredible guides and baggers twice and have a 3rd and 4th booked this year. Austin , Andrew, Hogan and the other baggers are the hardest working bunch I have ever had the pleasure of fishing with. The boys have always put us on quality fish on the most beautiful river and surroundings you could imagine. Austin and Andrew seem to know every rock and bucket on the rivers and rig to entice the rainbows and steelies. I always hated to end the day fishing but so looked forward the the great food and beverages awaiting us in the fantastic camps along the way. The baggers had the camps, tents, cots and all prepared, all we had to provide were the fish stories for the day. The whole crew does everything they can to provide a truly first class and memorable trip. Looking forward to the next trips this year. Thanks for the memories.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great River, Great Fishing and Great Guides!!! We did a multi day camping float trip on the Wallowa and Grande Ronde Rivers with Andrew, Austin, Hogan and the crew from Eastern Oregon Outfitters in September 2020 and it was an outstanding experience. The fishing was incredible. We were fly fishing using multiple techniques including dry flies, nymphing with droppers and swinging streamers. All the rods and equipment were provided. I especially enjoyed being able to fish from their rafts that are perfectly set up with a front and rear casting stations. I have a bad knee and I have a hard time wading and being able to fish from the raft was perfect and allowed for the guides to precisely position the rafts next to best fishing spots for casting. We caught dozens of fish including big hard fighting native rainbows and even a couple of steelhead. The fish are very strong and put up a great fight on the flyrods, even the smaller fish were fighters. We saw lots of wildlife including bighorn rams, rocky mountain goats, bears, otters, eagle elk, etc. In some cases they were literally right on the bank as we drifted by. The food was outstanding and having camp all set up when you get done with the day of fishing with your own cot and gear set up in your tent and a hot meal waiting was superb. The guides and staff are all super fun and professional. I really enjoyed that the guides had multiple flyrods set up ready to go so that when I tangled up or we need to change from dry flies to nymphs, they would just hand me the rod ready to cast. A great trip all around. Thanks to Andrew, Austin, Hogan and all of your staff for the float trip of a lifetime!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible Experience These guys are the best. First class operators, gifted fisherman, and highly professional. Austin and Andrew were relentless in their effort to get us into high quality fish and they succeeded. We had avid anglers and first timers and they had the perfect touch with both. Equal to the incredible fishing opportunities they gave us, they gave us a great total experience. The camp accommodations were A+. The food variety and pride in the prep was an A+. Their knowledge of the area, their passion for it, and their willingness to share it all made it....special. If you want a winning and memorable experience these guys will not disappoint. And those fish.....just incredible.
