The Story

In an industry-first collaborative effort with Michelin®, Orvis introduces the PRO Wading Boot. Built on an outsole compound specifically designed for fly fishing, this revolutionary new sole design is an industry-disrupting advance in wet rubber traction. The Michelin Outdoor Extreme outsole offers 25% better abrasion resistance and a resounding 43% improvement in wet rubber traction over the competition. Using Michelin tire geometry, it offers a wider footprint for stability, a higher ratio of surface contact, and a lug pattern that reduces shock and improves pressure distribution. The two-layer midsole has a co-molded ESS plate that provides improved stud retention and torsional stability. The shock-absorbing Phylon midsole improves “river feel” and compresses less than standard EVA midsoles. Orvis partnered with OrthoLite® to create a 3D molded X25 insole designed for high-impact sports, delivering maximum comfort and arch support. An industry-first cast PU upper eliminates seams while providing a zoned cage for added stability, grip, and extreme abrasion resistance without the added bulk. The boot is higher cut for ankle support and lined with closed-cell foam. Scratch rubber at the toe cap and heel for abrasion resistance, an oversized heel pull for easier on-and-off, and tightly woven laces reduce broken laces.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased with this purchase. Order arrived promptly but a confusion on the web page meant the Pro wading boots were one size too small for me. I phone up Customer service who were super. A new pair was sent straight away so no delay waiting for me to return my original boots, which I was able return at my convenience. Quality of boots look very good. I went out on the river the next day and they were great - comfy, lots of ankle support and grip was much better than my old felt sole waders. Time will tell on durability but if they hold up well then I will buy again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice boot, with a major exception Pros: the soles are great and super sticky. You'll still need studs if you do a lot of river wading, but the rubber is stickier than any other rubber on the market. They're extremely comfortable as well. The uppers are incredibly durable. Cons: laces wear out rather quickly (this is actually not terrible since it's easy to replace with heavy duty boot laces). As many have noted, the outsole and midsole can separate. I have ~30 days on the water with these and they're almost completely separated. It's only held on with the studs. Otherwise, they still look brand new. They'd get 5 stars if it weren't for the soles coming apart (it's kind of a big deal when you're wading in rivers and trying to stay out of dangerous situations). I could only recommend these if the mid-sole separation issue can get figured out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from VERY COMFORTABLE! Have had these boots for about 10 months now and they feel great on my feet and show no signs of wear. I fish 2-3 times/week in warmer weather and 1-2 times per month in the winter, so they do get used quite a bit. I'm not sure the grip and traction is as good as advertised, but still a great boot that I am very happy with.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Detached soles and delamination issues! After reading several reviews that seem to consistently point to manufacturing defects, this gives me reasons to pause about purchasing another pair of Orvis wader boots. I received a pair of Orvis wader boots a few years ago as a gift. Wore them twice before placing them in the original box for storage in my closet. Removed after a couple of years to find the soles on both had separated and the exterior coating had delaminated. Customer service seemed eager to replace, but I could not produce a purchase receipt and Orvis only wanted to offer a penance of the original cost claiming that was the lowest price ever offered for the waders.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Orvis has done it again I do a lot of winter fishing where I live. The new Pro Wading Boot is perfect for the job. I’ve had problems with past wading boots freezing under harsh conditions. The Pro Wading Boot offers excellent flexibility under the most adverse conditions.
