The Story

At Peach State Fly Fishing, we offer a premium river float and wading experience like you would expect to find at more well-known fisheries. On our trips, we pursue shoal bass, a unique and wild species of black bass only found in a handful of rivers in the Southeastern U.S.

Using industry-leading fishing rafts, rods, reels, and tackle, we target these aggressive river predators with various methods, including streamers, poppers, nymphs, dry flies, and conventional tackle. The diversity of possible approaches allows us to cater to both the beginner and experienced angler, so whatever your skill level, we can accommodate you.

Our head guide and owner, Quint Rogers, has worked in the industry in both Montana and Pennsylvania. He, along with his group of professional and qualified guides, can guarantee a memorable experience in one of the most unique bass fisheries in the world. Our rivers boast incredible scenery, dynamic swift water habitat, abundant wildlife, and extremely healthy fish populations. Growing the sport of shoal-bass fly fishing has gone hand in hand with growing our business, and we think you’ll get just as fired up as we did the first time we had a shoalie bend a rod. We are conveniently located a short drive south of Atlanta and can help arrange transport and lodging. Come check the shoal bass off your bucket list!

Both the Flint and Ocmulgee Rivers flow through the Fall Line region of Georgia, a dynamic geographical area that sees the landscape transition from granite Appalachian foothills to flat, sandy coastal plain. This translates to lots of elevation drop, creating amazing scenery and water features that one might expect in a northern trout stream.

Granite shoals are interlaced with large perennial and evergreen trees. Expect to fish amongst swift currents, rocky riffles, eddies, and near familiar bass habitats, like grass lines and submerged timber.

How should I dress for a shoal-bass trip?

This depends on the time of year, but we always recommend quick-drying clothing regardless of the season. Sun-protective clothing, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat are a must during warmer months, and during fall or winter fishing, we recommend dressing in easily shed-able layers.

Can you accommodate older/mobility-impaired anglers?

Yes! Our boats are easy to get in and out of and well-suited for fishing from a seated position. Comfortable chairs and ample foot space make our trips excellent for the mobility impaired. However, we do not recommend wading trips for these individuals.

Can I bring my own tackle?

Yes! While we are equipped to provide all needed tackle, we understand that you may be more comfortable using your own gear. We recommend 7- and 8-wt. fast-action fly rods with an aggressive taper floating or sink-tip line. For conventional tackle, medium to medium-heavy 7-ft. rods are preferred.
