Rated 5 out of 5 by from Epic Fly Fishing! Imagine waking up, sneaking past your sleeping family and hitting private water, unguided, on a creek teaming with alpine brookies and wild browns. On one morning I saw over 20 fish in one hour. From there I popped back up to eat breakfast with my family before heading over to the main lodge. We had a fire going in our cabin the entire time we were there. After finishing up, we headed over to the activities center to head out on our daily adventures. My Dad and I, of course, were going fly fishing. We have fished everywhere together from Vancouver Island steelhead, to epic browns in Patagonia, to float trips down the Snake in Jackson Hole. All I have to say is that the fly fishing at Devil's Thumb is not only comparable but at times superior! After a crazy late morning filled with a mix of browns and rainbows, we stumbled across a shallow riffle with fish rising steadily. We selected a Parachute Adams and cast into the feeding frenzy. Boom, a 20+ inch brown hit my fly and I set . . . After a epic battle our guide net the fish about 50 feet down river. We shot photos and took a GoPro release video. All I have to say is I will remember that day forever and it will always be in my top 10 best fishing days ever!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An amazing day on the water with plenty of trout! My wife and I booked the fly fishing package at the Devil’s Thumb Ranch in mid September and...where to start? Firstly, the accommodations are 5-star. A beautiful lodge tucked in the mountains with incredible views. We stayed in the main lodge and our room was great - big, comfortable bed, a massive bathtub, heated bathroom floors and a decor that made you feel you were out in the wilderness. The resort has a great breakfast cafe for a quick bite before fishing, and a delicious sit-down restaurant to unwind with a glass of whisky after a full day of wading. Just stellar accommodations. Now for the fishing: we booked a full day wade trip with Rachel and it will definitely be a day I’ll never forget! I had recently gotten into fly fishing and had dreamed about hooking into a beautiful brown trout while standing in a stream in the mountains. Devil’s Thumb Ranch has a pristine river that cuts on its property that is loaded with freestone (I.e. not stocked) trout. It’s close to the property so you don’t need to spend an hour driving (when you could be fishing) yet you don’t see the lodge at all so it feels remote. Before we got started, Rachel got us suited up with everything we needed - waders, boots, and fly rods. I should also call out that I let the lodge know ahead of time that I was left-handed and use a right-hand retrieve - Rachel has a rod ready for me to go (a few days later we went out with a guide at another company and they didn’t have the right rod for me to use). As a more advanced beginner, Rachel provided appropriate instruction (for me - it was mastering mends on different parts of the river). But it’s worth mentioning that my wife had never touched a fly rod and Rachel was able to provide her with a thorough crash course, teaching her the basics and giving her confidence to fish as well. The fish were jumping around us all day and we caught 4-5 fish (undoubtedly a more seasoned angler would have caught more - a few came off the line) and we are so grateful to Rachel for the incredible day and memories that’ll last a lifetime. I’m attaching two photos that sum up our trip - me hooking into a beautiful brown trout and my wife catching a massive rainbow!
