Eagle Nest Lodge combines the rustic beauty of Montana with the comforts of the modern age. The lodge consists of seven bedrooms. Each guest room is appointed with two beds, a full, private bath, and is decorated with an artistic touch that complements the Montana outdoors. Our maximum number of guests is 14. The great room is complete with trophies, a wet bar, and offers cozy warmth courtesy of a wood stove. The large, screened porch, complete with log furniture and an old-time swing, provides a quiet evening retreat where guests can unwind. Relax in the hot tub after a day on the water and enjoy our beautiful Big Sky Country.
Food & Drink:
Dining at Eagle Nest Lodge has always been a prominent element of every guest’s stay. The dining room offers a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere that showcases wonderful cuisine and genuine Montana hospitality. Made-to-order breakfasts are served each morning (continental breakfast for early departures) and lunches on the river along with appetizers are served in the great room prior to dinner. Three-course meals include salad or soup, gourmet dinner, and homemade dessert. Meals feature such elements as local Angus beef, rack of lamb, upland game prepared with subtle spices and home-grown herbs, wild asparagus, pies filled with Montana berries and, of course, fresh vegetables.
Made-to-order breakfast is served at 7:30 a.m. each morning. You can depart with your guide as soon as you are ready to go. Depending on where the guides wish to put in, the drive to the location will average 20–40 minutes. Bighorn River trips combine float fishing from McKenzie-style drift boats with traditional stalk and wade techniques. Our typical float is anywhere from 10–13 miles per day, fishing over 8 hours per day. Guides will provide lunch on the river each fishing day. Guests typically make it back to the lodge every evening around 5:30 pm. After unwinding in their room, guests have the option to enjoy cocktails and appetizers in the great room followed by a three-course dinner in the dining room. At the end of the day there is always the popular option to relax in the hot tub and enjoy our beautiful Big Sky Country.
The Eagle Nest crew is one of the few outfits to guide on both the upper and lower stretches of the Bighorn River. Our experience on the lower Bighorn presents opportunities for exceptionally large trout and allows guests to fish this world-famous river in near solitude. The Bighorn River is teeming with rainbow and brown trout, which provides excellent fishing in April through November. As a tailwater fishery, heavy run-off is never a problem, making it one of the few fisheries where fishing is as good in April and May as it is during summer and fall. The Bighorn averages between 4,000–6,000 trout per mile.
General description of hatches:
April: Baetis starting. Usually great dry-fly fishing.
May: Beaetis is in full swing, possibly some midges around. This typically is the best all-around month for dry flies and nymphing.
June: This is the best month for nymph anglers. Beginner's month!
July: PMDs and yellow Sallies. Hoppers at the end of the month. Sallies can be great this time of year. Good month for novice and advanced anglers.
August: Tricos usually here and some black caddis. Sometimes some sallies. Hoppers. A great time for novice and advanced anglers.
September: Tricos and caddis.
October: Some fall baetis and some tricos. Streamer fishing.
November: Streamers and nymphs. Browns are spawning and are beautiful.

What is Included?
Eagle Nest Lodge provides all Orvis equipment included in your package rate. Orvis rods, reels, waders, boots, and all flies and tackle, accommodations, all meals, guide service, boats.
What is Not Included?
Gratuities for guides and service staff, fishing license, transportation to and from the Lodge, bed tax, alcohol (guests are welcome to bring their own alcohol).

Eagle Nest lodge offers casting clinics, sporting clays (first round is complimentary), horseshoes, and a hot tub. Other nearby excursions include:
Little Bighorn Battlefield—15 miles east of Hardin: On a scorching June Sunday in 1876, hundreds of Indian warriors converged on a grassy ridge rising above the valley of Montana's Little Big Horn River. On the ridge, five companies of the US Cavalry, about 210 officers and troopers, fought desperately but were hopelessly outnumbered. The Big Horn County Museum, Hardin, MT—The Big Horn County Museum Complex takes you back in time as you stroll on the board walk that leads to the 20 historic buildings and exhibits which interpret the area's rich past. You will see items that belonged to the first Americans who roamed the high plains in search of buffalo; traders and settlers who came in search of adventure; and the early-day homesteaders who toiled for a living by farming and raising livestock. Pompey's Pillar—28 Miles East of Billings, MT. Where American Indians, explorers, trappers, and soldiers passed, this historic landmark was called "Where the Mountain Lion Lies" by the Crow people. "I marked my name and the day of the month and year." wrote Captain William Clark in his journal of Friday, July 25th, 1806. This inscription is the only surviving on-site physical remains of the Lewis and Clark expedition. (406) 875-2233

What gear do you recommend?
Included in your package will be the use of Orvis rods, reels, waders, boots, and all flies and tackle. Staff can assist you in purchasing your personal tools of the trade from our onsite Orvis retail shop. For anglers wanting to bring personal fishing gear we recommend the following:
- Rods: An 8' to 9' rod in a 5 or 6 wt. is fine for everything you will do.
- A 3 or 4 wt. is great for delicate dry-fly fishing.
- Reels: A good, durable reel with a weight-forward, floating line is all you need. Backing is a must.
- Waders: Chest waders are a must. Felt soles work best and cleats are not needed.
- Wading staff if you'd like, but not usually necessary.
- A brimmed or billed hat
- Sunblock
- Polarized sunglasses
- A great raincoat is a MUST!
- Wading sandals in the summer months
- Fleece pants or long underwear
- Sun gloves
- Fingerless gloves
- Fishing pants
- Durable socks of varying weights
- Swimsuit for hot tub, if so desired
- Layering is a must for colder weather
- Casual attire for relaxing at the lodge
- Toiletries and other personal items

Reservations, Deposits & Payments
The deposit is 50% of the trip price unless stated differently in the trip proposal and materials (trip planner and confirmation email). In some cases, deposits are non-refundable, this depends on the destination and will be clearly noted in the trip proposal and materials as well. Deposits may be made by check or credit card: Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover Card. The balance of the trip cost is due 90 days before departure, except where specified differently on individual itineraries. The balance will be charged automatically to the credit card used for the deposit, unless otherwise specified. Any changes made to the method of payment after the final balance has been collected are subject to processing fees.
A reservation form and release are required prior to departure.
All prices must be paid in U.S. dollars. Deposits are not transferable from one trip to another.
Prices quoted are based on foreign exchange values and tariffs currently in effect and prices are subject to change. Orvis Adventures reserves the right to adjust prices accordingly until the time of departure.
Planning information
When your reservation is confirmed, you will receive planning information to guide you through trip preparations. Details about arrival and departure, clothing and equipment, trip cancellation insurance, pre- and post- trip extensions, visas and documents and activities are included in the planning information.
Cancellation and Refund Policy
Although cancellation fees may be higher for some trips (stated in the trip proposal and materials), the following minimum cancellation fees will apply:

For trips that include an Orvis gift card or Orvis merchandise, the retail value of the gift card or merchandise is non-refundable upon delivery. Cancellation fees cannot be waived for any reason, including health, business or personal emergencies, or weather.
We strongly urge you to purchase trip cancellation insurance.
No refunds will be made for unused portions of a trip, including late arrival or early departure. Guide fees and hotel costs are not refundable if unused as outlined in the itinerary. Orvis reserves the right to modify an itinerary due to circumstances beyond our control. In the unlikely event that Orvis must cancel a tour, all payments received to date will be refunded, which constitutes a full settlement.
Orvis is not responsible for expenses incurred in preparation of any canceled trip, including airline tickets and visas fees.
Cancellation Insurance
Your planning information includes information for travel insurance covering cancel for any reason, cancellation for medical reasons, trip delay, medical expenses, lost baggage and medical evacuation. We urge you to obtain this coverage.
Share policies
Trip prices are based on double occupancy. Single rooms & cabins are limited. If you request a single room, a single supplement will apply as noted in the itinerary. We will confirm the single room as early as possible, but in some cases it may not be earlier than 30 days prior to the trip. If you request a roommate, we can usually pair you with another guest of the same gender, and no single supplement will apply. If you request a roommate, and one is not available, we will only charge you the single supplement if required by the lodge or facility used in the trip.
Children under 18 must share a room with a parent or other family member. In some cases this may be waived.
Passports and documents
International trips require a passport. Check your passport early and make sure it has six months validity at the time of travel. A visa is needed in some countries and we will send you complete details and instructions.
Arrival and Departure
Group transfers from a central location such as an airport are described in the itinerary, and are included in the land cost.. Transfers are not included in the land cost if you arrive early or leave after the scheduled departure day.

You will receive a detailed list of appropriate gear with your trip planning information.
Airline reservations
The land cost of your trip does not include airfare.
Limitation of liability
This section defines Orvis Travel’s responsibility with regard to all travel arrangements made by Orvis Travel, including individual travel and pre- and post- trip extensions. Please read it carefully.
Upon sending your deposit to Orvis Travel, you acknowledge that you have read and understand all the terms and conditions outlined here, and agree to be bound by them.
All trips that involve outdoor sporting activities such as shooting or fishing, or travel through remote places by vehicle, boat, small plane or on foot, put you at risk for accidents and serious injuries in the normal course of the activity. That is the nature of travel to such destinations and you acknowledge that you accept these hazards as a condition of participation.
Orvis Travel, its Owners, Employees, Associates and Agents give notice that they act only as the agent for the owners, contractors and suppliers providing means of transportation and/or other services and assume no responsibility howsoever caused for injury, loss or damage to person or property in connection with any service resulting directly from: acts of God, detention, annoyance, delays, expenses arising from quarantine, strikes, thefts, pilferage, force majeure, failure of any means of conveyance to arrive or depart as scheduled, civil disturbances, terrorism, government restrictions or regulations, and discrepancies or changes in transit or hotel services over which it has no control. Reasonable changes in the itinerary may be made where deemed advisable for the comfort and well-being of the passengers.
Baggage and personal effects, including items purchased, guns, fishing equipment or sporting goods are the sole responsibility of the owners at all times and no employee/agent of Orvis Travel, its subsidiaries, affiliated or associated companies is authorized to accept these for storage, safekeeping, or transportation.
