Departure days:
These are always tough because no one wants to leave, but the ranch requests a departure time of 10:00 AM.

Lodging options include everything from one-bedroom suites to three-bedroom family units with cathedral ceilings, sitting areas, and stone fireplaces. Suites and cabins include private baths and cozy pillow-top beds in king, queen, and twin size configurations. Each cabin is uniquely decorated, and all share wonderful views of the wilderness surrounding the ranch. It’s like being at home… but better — just relax, grab an appetizer and a glass of wine, put your feet up and let us take care of all the details.

Wildhorse Lodge – a small lodge with five suite-style rooms: perfect for couples, singles, or families with adult children.

Stonehenge Mansion – Our largest accommodation sleeps 12: a six-bedroom, three-bath lodge, with three large common areas, each with wood-burning fireplaces—great for a family reunion, families traveling together or large families, and perfect for corporate groups or retreats.

Klondike Cabin – A true log cabin with a common sitting area and impressive large rock fireplace. Perfect Colorado lodging for families with younger kids, this cabin is just across from the pool. Gather ‘round the fireplace in the evening and share stories about your day!

Homestead Cabin – Great for larger families visiting our Colorado Dude Ranch: this cabin sleeps up to nine people. Older kids can sleep separately from the adult area with plenty of privacy for all. You can all come together in the common area for games, snacks, and socializing around the stone fireplace and coffee bar or enjoy the views from any of the multiple porches.

Skill Levels/Experience

All skill levels are welcome.

How Strenuous Are The Activities?

Moderate. Wading and light hiking.

Children are permitted. Parents should use their discretion regarding their children's level of maturity and patience if they will be joining the trip as an angler.

Meals & Dining

The ranch takes great pride in feeding guests well! Exceptional family dining with a gourmet flair is sure to satisfy every appetite. Full, hearty breakfasts, unique lunches, and dinners served that are anything but typical. **Alcoholic beverages are not included. Please come prepared with your own alcohol.

Species:

The North Fork Ranch is home to a variety of trout. Primarily larger than your average rainbow trout. We also see brown trout, cutthroat trout, and the rare but occasional brook trout.

Typical Weather

North Fork Ranch is located within the Colorado Rockies. During your typical Summer months, days can be warm and arid with typically cooler evenings. 70's & 80's during the day and 50's - 60's in the evenings. During those Summer months we can experience afternoon rain showers brought in by what is called "monsoonal flow", so pack a rain jacket. Spring and Fall weather can change at a moments notice. It can be a comfortable 70 degree day, and within minutes you could experience a quick drop in tempature and have rain showers. Bring a rain jacket. Any day that we have sun all day, it can get quite warm.

Region/Terrain:

All anglers should be prepared for the variable weather of the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

Gear Recommendations:

The North Fork Ranch Guide Service has their guide shed located at the ranch. All equipment is available and included in the cost of a guide trip. This includes a rod and reel, waders and boots, flies and terminal tackle. Of course all anglers are welcome to bring your own equipment.

Fly rod. We do not allow anything smaller then a 5-wt. at the ranch. A 9 foot 5-wt. is great. This is also a great chance to fish your 6-wt.

Fly reel. Be sure you have an adequate drag system for an epic trout battle.

Fly Line. Floating. Match your rod/reel.

Waders. Breathable suggested.

Wading boots. We do allow felt boots. We suggest studs in rubber bottom boots. Please stay off decks and walkways with studded boots.

Tippet 3X, 4X Mirage Fluorocarbon.

Net. If you do not have a large hoop net with a long handle leave it at home. We have extra.

The North Fork Ranch Guide Service does provide daily rentals of all the above equipment. We do recommend you bring your own flies and terminal tackle if you are not fishing with a guide. We can provide a list of fly shops on the way to the ranch.

Fishing the area:

North Fork of The South Platte River: Each private fly-fishing ranch is only accessible with a fly-fishing guide and based on availability. Each is meticulously managed for optimum fishing opportunity through catch-and-release and strictly limited access. Rainbow Trout average three pounds, and many have been caught and released up to 10 pounds. The river is also home to brown trout, brook trout, and cutthroat trout. Boxwood Ranch and Long Meadow Ranch are located one mile away from the North Fork Ranch on the same stretch of river.

South Park Private Ranches: Think of each of these as your own dry-fly fishing paradise! Each of these private fly-fishing ranches is managed as fly fishing only with minimal pressure. Average fish varies depending on the ranch, however average in the 8-14" range. Although we have seen fish upward of 20" on each of these ranches. A great mix of wild browns and rainbows. Typically dry fly with a dropper or just dry flies. Drive times from the North Fork Ranch vary anywhere from 30-70 minutes.
