The Story

Enlist the services of the Orvis-endorsed guides at Werkman Outfitters on your fly-fishing trip to Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 2016, Tom Werkman started Werkman Outfitters with two goals in mind: The first was to weave a common thread through his and his son Max’s life. He believed that together they could push each other to become better anglers, better guides, and better business owners. The second goal was to help people see that the Grand River is a viable fishing corridor and to bring to light the environmental challenges it has overcome, and the challenges that remain. Since then, they have guided hundreds of clients from all over the United States and well beyond. They pride themselves on building lasting relationships, curating memorable experiences, and advocating for the environmental health of the Grand River and its tributaries.

The Grand River is Michigan's longest river and second-largest drainage system. Its story is one of ruin to recovery. The river has many rocky shoals, logjams, and river grasses that hold fish. Depending on the time of year, we will either fish downtown Grand Rapids under the skyscrapers and fast-paced rapids or on the quieter, slower moving, more remotes sections of the Grand.

Rates start from $375.
