Although our schedule changes throughout the season depending on available light and water temperatures, we start our days by meeting at my house or me picking you up at your hotel. Then we fish for around 4-5 hours after which we return to our home for a hot home-cooked lunch and beverages prepared by my wife, Janeil. We usually finish of the lunch with dessert and a bit of port before we go back on the stream for another 3-4 hours of fishing.
A special tour of his studio can be scheduled during your stay and a watercolor or oil painting of your trophy steelhead or favorite stretch of water can also be commissioned. This is a perfect way to remember the day’s events or as a gift for a special friend, business associate, or family member.

What is Provided to Customer:
All equipment is provided for your trip: rods, reels, flies, instruction, and images from the trip. Most requests for waders and boots are fulfilled unless we do not have your size.
What Should Customers Bring?
The clothing a client needs depend on the time of year but generally you should bring:
- good polarized glasses - amber lenses
- warm hat - ideally a waterproof, breathable, fleece baseball cap
- neck warmer
- polypropylene undershirt, breathable - thickness depends on temperatures
- fleece pullover
- waterproof, breathable wading jacket
- polypropylene underwear, breathable - thickness depends on temperatures
- fleece pants
- waterproof breathable waders
- wading boots - ideally cleated felt in the fall and spring and cleated rubber in the winter when there is snow on the ground
- two pairs of wool or fleece fingerless gloves
- hand warmers - depending on temperature
- New York State fishing license
- camera

Steelhead and brown trout from October through May.
Region/Terrain Where you Fish
The terrain we fish varies dramatically from small to medium-sized rivers. Decisions on where to fish depend on water condition, the client's skill level, the client's preferences, and the location of steelhead pods. We generally drive to our locations and walk down to the creek and wade. Sometimes we can just walk out our front door and fish in our backyard for steelhead. We have around around 10 steelhead streams of various sizes with in a 25-minute drive from our house.
Typical Weather by Season:
Weather for steelhead fishing in our area can vary dramatically depending on the time of year:
October can provide changing leaves along the stream with mild temperatures between 40 and 60 degrees. This is usually peak time on Cattaraugus Creek due to the minimal to moderate rainfall we receive. Smaller streams are usually starting to get some runs of steelhead.
November is usually our peak part of the season with temperatures usually between 30 - 50 degrees. From mid-November to early December, most steelhead streams have received plenty of good runs of steelhead.
December is generally a good time to fish, with plenty of steelhead in the streams and temperatures between 25 - 40 degrees. Steelhead are coming close to their peak spawning time, after which they will begin to move back into the Great Lakes.
January sees fewer fish in the streams, although we still have moderate numbers of fish. Temperatures usually range between 25 - 35 degrees. Guide trips are scheduled tentatively during this time due to water temperatures. On good days, fish are eager to take your flies and you will rarely see anyone on any streams.
February typically has the same temperatures as January with fewer fish in the stream.
March brings the beginning of the spring runs of steelhead with temperatures between 30-50 degrees. By the second or third week in March, we are getting good pushes of steelhead moving into the streams.
April brings more runs of steelheads with temperatures between 40-60 degrees.
May brings warm temperatures between 45-65 degrees with many steelhead moving back into the lake as the Skamania strain (warmer blooded) of steelhead move in with small mouth bass. The Cattaraugus starts to clear up with more fishable days available.
June usually brings good fishing for large, aggressive smallmouth bass, with temperatures between 50-70 degrees.

We are located in the town of Fredonia, NY on the banks of a steelhead stream that is about a 45-minute drive west from Buffalo.

Where should I rent a car?
Rental car is available at airport or pick up available for $200 round-trip from Buffalo Airport (45 minute drive each way and includes tolls). Taxi service is also available from A – Cab (716 -366-8888) for $120 for up to 4 passengers each way.

Cattaraugus Creek, Chautauqua Creek, Canadaway Creek, and several secret streams.
What types of Fishing do you do?
Wading streams, fly fishing, and catch and release.
