The Story

A gummy-type minnow in bluewater size for large predators. Great realism and the fish hold it longer. No other minnow pattern moves with the same action as these flies. Perfect on offshore trips for mahi mahi. In pearl.

Sizes: 2/0, 4/0. Length 3¾".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than you probably expect This isn't the first soft gummy minnow I've ordered and used. However, it is the first that I've ordered and used that looks as remarkably realistic and life like as this one from Orvis. It's really quite amazing. More often than not, highly replicative details are only found on hard lures used with spinning or conventional rod and reel set ups. This fly breaks the trend in terms of realism. It's larger than I expected, but aerodynamic enough to where throwing it, even in wind, is not a problem. It's also more resilient than I expected. Usually, rubbery soft baits last for about one fight with a fish. Sometimes, you don't even get to fight the fish - just find that your bait has a large piece missing. Though I wouldn't rule that out from happening, thankfully it hasn't occurred yet. I think I read somewhere that these style flies were intended for use when targeting stripers. I'm not sure, but I am sure they work well off Florida's Gulf Coast for trout, snook, and redfish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from really durable I've been using this in saltwater for the fall striper run. Where there are stripers, you'll also find bluefish. They usually shread the fly with their sharp teeth (or cut your line completely) This "fly" was able to be used all day. It really lasted even with the teeth marks and sandy bottom I was fishing. It's a bit heavier than most flies as its really like a combination rubber lure / fly. Lookes pretty realistic when drawn through the water, but not as lifelike as a fethered lure does on slower, stop and go retrieves.
