The Story

Join Orvis Adventures for a week of world-class fishing at two of Chilean Patagonia’s top lodges: Matapiojo Lodge and Chimalfe Patagonia Lodge. This exclusive trip is timed perfectly for peak fishing season and is limited to just six anglers, ensuring a focused, personalized experience.

You’ll spend three nights at each lodge, with six full days of guided fishing. A smooth mid-week transfer lets you fish a full day before arriving at the next lodge—just in time to sit down to a well-earned dinner.

At Matapiojo Lodge, you’ll stay right on the Futaleufú River, with easy access to Lago Yelcho and a network of remote rivers and lagoons—some so untouched they don’t even have names. Expect both boat fishing and walk-and-wade days in truly wild surroundings. Chimalfe Patagonia Lodge is a modern basecamp with sweeping views over the Yelcho River headwaters. Fish local rivers and lakes for rainbow, brown, and brook trout, and return each evening to good meals, warm beds, and wide-open skies.

Arrival

Fly into Santiago and take a connecting flight to Puerto Montt. A short transfer will take you to Puerto Varas, where we have arranged a hotel for you to spend the night.

Travel Day & Fishing

In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel and return to Puerto Montt for your flight to Chaitén. From Chaitén, you will head to the lodge for your first day of fishing. You will spend 3 days fishing at Matapiojo or Chimalfe and then switch lodges to finish your trip.

Departure

The last day starts with an early breakfast so you can make the trip back to the Chaitén Airport for your flights to Puerto Montt, Santiago, and your ultimate destination.

Matapiojo Lodge Fishing

Matapiojo Lodge offers access to an incredible range of waters—from wide rivers and remote lagoons to the legendary Lago Yelcho. Anglers can cast dry flies to cruising trout, float rivers tossing hoppers to big browns, or strip streamers for trophy fish.

Each day is tailored by expert guides to match your skill level, making it ideal for both beginners and experienced anglers. With such diverse waters, every cast offers a new challenge.

Chimalfe Patagonia Lodge Fishing

Set near the deep waters of Yelcho Lake, fed by the famed Futaleufú River, Chimalfe Patagonia Lodge is at the epicenter of prime fishing. You’ll target wild brown and rainbow trout with dry flies, streamers, and nymphs across the Yelcho, Palena, and Futaleufú Rivers—and in hidden, off-the-map locations.

Fishing here is dynamic—conditions change fast, and so do the tactics. But when a monster trout crushes your foam dragonfly on the surface, you’ll understand why anglers dream of this place.
