Species You Fish for by Season

We have one of the only legal seasons in the lower 48 to target the threatened, native bull trout. These behemoths can top out at over 36 inches and well over 15 lbs.! Our native, wild, and willing westslope cutthroat trout will readily rise to the surface to engulf your gigantic foam dry fly.

Lodging, Meals, and Accommodations

A wilderness cook will accompany you for your entire trip, having appetizers awaiting your arrival back to camp after a full day of catching trout. You will feast on savory ribs cooked over a roaring fire, or grilled ahi tuna, followed by Dutch oven baked desserts!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Palatable beauty and phenomenal fishing! If untouched scenery and prolific fishing is what you are looking for, then Spotted Bear Ranch is your spot. From the second you drive under the wooden arches you feel like you have entered a spot that resembles summer camp. Towering Junipers, rustic cabins, tree stump benches, gravel lined paths. All reminding you that you have escaped the busy life you left behind. We had three unique and unforgettable days of fishing. First, we floated down the Upper Spotted Bear River which is one of the most scenic floats we have ever been on. That day we brought our 4 teenagers and all left in awe of their new-found sport and new “most beautiful spot in the world”. We took three boats down, each supplied with one guide per 2 people. The entire family caught fish in the double digits, which any true fly fisherman knows…isn’t always the case. The kids even took some time to jump off the boats and swim in some crystal-clear swimming holes. As they headed back to our home in the SF Bay Area, all claimed this day guided buy Spotted Bear was their favorite part of their trip to Montana. My husband and I stayed on and spent two more fantastic days on the rivers. Both were walk wades with amazing scenic hikes through the Bob Marshall Wilderness. We spotted deer, rare birds and even a rarer sighting of a majestic white mountain goat. And oh yes, the fish were out in numbers on those days as well. Beautiful 16-18 inch trout were waiting for us to pluck them from the waters. Beyond the scenery and great fishing, the lodge itself offers such warm hospitality and tasty cuisine. We were greeted each morning with a pot of French press coffee at our cabin door and ended each evening with a glass of wine outside amongst the stars. This was our 6th visit to this majestic spot and it’s a truly a miss in your life if you don’t experience it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great staff and great experience Just finishing up a great visit at the Spotted Bear Ranch. Can't say enough about how awesome the lodge staff and guides are here. Garrett Warren was our guide for all three days and we would highly recommend him as he was great. Katie, Emily, Blake, Lucas and the rest of the lodge staff were all so warm and welcoming. They really made our stay great.
