Season:

Our schedule is based on four days of fishing. Beginning with our first charter flight into the lodge on June 10th thru last trip in on August 17th, our plane arrives every four days.

Northern pike, lake trout, walleye, and Arctic grayling are available throughout the season.

Region/Terrain:

Wollaston Lake, located in far northeastern Saskatchewan, Canada, is one of the world's natural treasures. The largest freshwater lake in the world to drain into two different oceans, this 800-square mile lake is fed by numerous rivers that pour highly-oxygenated water into the bays. 200 miles from the nearest city, this is a true wilderness area.

Typical Weather:

June brings the spring thaw as we watch the ice leave the big lake. Average temps range from high 70s F during the day to low 40s F in the evening. July has daytime averages of 75 F to evening low at 55 F average with extremes only at 85 F! The August fishing temps are mid 70s to high 40s in the evening.

Other:

When is the best time to come?
Our highest number of fish per boat normally occurs in the first half of our season. The 'nicest' weather seems to occur during July with August seeing us catch our heaviest northern pike of the season.

I'd like to learn how to fly fish. Can you teach me?
Absolutely! Our guides are very well-versed in teaching guests the basics of fly-casting and fishing. A 'Fly Fishing 101' class is given one evening per trip. These pike are voracious feeders and readily attack the fly. For advanced anglers, specific techniques can be worked on and improved.

Can I bring fish home?
We have practiced a strict catch-and-release policy for 30 years. The only exception is your daily shore lunch each provided by your guide from the fish you caught that day.

Are gratuities customary?
Like most lodges, our guides are normally tipped by those guests they guide directly. We recommend 10-12%. Our shore-staff personnel pool their tips and divide them evenly. We recommend 4% of cost of the package.

Additional Activities:

Our August visitors are often treated to a nightly display of the northern lights. Photography lessons by our staff can help those who visit capture these stunning natural wonders.

Our 5-star chef team offers a variety of meal selections. Begin each day with a breakfast made to order. The pastry and bread chef will enhance your meals with fresh baked goods daily. Then, when sitting down to enjoy your choice of dinner, you can choose from our extensive wine list and complete your evening meal with a decadent dessert. Our portions will satisfy the hungriest appetite while our presentations impress.

There are no set times for you to come to dinner. This is your Wollaston experience and you should set the plan. All meals are cooked to order and special requests are graciously welcomed.

Special dietary requirements are, of course, no problem for our team. Our chef and wait staff are dedicated to making your culinary experiences just as memorable as your fishing.

All of Wollaston Lake Lodge’s cabins are modern in design and convenience. Cabins easily accommodate up to eight people in complete comfort. Each of our 21 cabins are equipped with thermostatically controlled electric heat, allowing you to be in charge of your own comfort. You’ll find private bathrooms in each, complete with plush towels. Our beds are dressed with exceptionally soft flannel sheets. You’ll also find a small refrigerator. Ice is delivered every afternoon directly to your cabin. Upon waking, you’ll even find a thermos of hot coffee waiting for you right outside your door.

Our workout room will help keep you in fish-fighting shape, while our licensed massage therapist will knead those tired muscles back into that feeling of “ahhh.” Now, imagine finishing it all off with a relaxing sauna. A perfect way to close a perfect day at Wollaston Lake Lodge. You’ll also find an impressive wine selection, lounge with full bar, and a fully-stocked tackle shop.

No worries if you need to keep in contact with your business or family, or simply brag about your fishing success. We supply wireless internet, satellite television, as well as telephone and fax services in the lodge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only the best! I have been to many lodges over the 55 years I have fished and neither the quality of fishing or the lodge has ever come close to Wollaston Lake Lodge. Everything is always done right—the first time. When there is a glitch the owners, Judy and Mike always have a remedy that is immediate and complete. The staff are so loyal because of the respect Judy and Mike show them. They are both tremendous role models for so many young people who are lucky enough to work at the Lodge. In today’s world, this is very unusual and precious. Mike and Judy treat all their guests with equal respect. I leave my equipment in the lodge storage after each season since there is really no reason to go anywhere else for the quality and type of fishing they offer. You get what you pay for and at this lodge, you get even more!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Northern Bound I had to coordinate a corporate trip involving 12 people from 5 different states. Wollaston Lake Lodge not only made this simple, they exceeded our expectations. They walked every person through the process with ease and never missed a beat. Then to add an amazing 4 days of fishing, shore lunches, and The Aurora Borealis dancing across the night sky, There is no way you could script it any better! One of the best lodges I have had the privilege to visit. Hope to be back every year if possible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Epic adventure! When my cousin Richard called to invite me to go fishing at Wollaston Lake Lodge, I literally jumped at the chance. I had heard legendary stories and had seen amazing pictures from a dear friend who raved about this spectacular resort and had made annual pilgrimages in the late 1970s and 80s. I had high expectations going up there and I was blown away with what I experienced! Mike and Judy have created an oasis in Paradise! The person touches were extraordinary -- from Mike shaking our hand and individually greeting us when we exited the charter plane at the Points North airport, and then doing the same when we departed 5 days later, to every interaction and experience in between. 'World Class' is the best term to describe the Wollaston Lake Lodge -- from the beautiful, well appointed and spacious facility, to the gorgeous and smarty laid out waterfront, quality fishing gear and boats, perfectly organized flyouts, and relaxed, efficient and customer oriented service. Several other aspects of our trip deserve specific mention -- first, the fishing was phenomenal! Huge pike, beautiful walleye and chunky lake trout were a thrill to catch, photograph and release (unless destined for a delicious shore lunch!). On a related note, the shore lunches were tasty and memorable, and the overall cuisine at WLL is phenomenal! Made to order breakfasts and 5 star evening dinners were the daily standard, with sincere attention to some special dietary needs of our group. But lastly, what really sets the Wollaston Lake Lodge apart are the people. Every single interaction was special, from Dan the Expeditor meeting us at the airport in Winnipeg, to our guides Brent, Dave and Nick, to Leah our waitress, to Max the deckhand, to Estee and Jaelyn in the bar, to Craig and Rocky the managers, and to the lovely ladies who provided us daily laundry service. The entire WLL team truly cares -- for us their guests, and for each other. They obviously work hard, are eager to go the extra mile, and are gracious, attentive and happy. Ritz Carlton service in the beautiful Canadian Northwoods, serving up memories for a lifetime. Mike and Judy -- very well done, I can't wait to go back!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Giant Pike on the Fly! After a slow start to the morning, our guide moved us into a shallow water bay where I hooked into two 45" pike back to back! My arm was exhausted, but it was awesome.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Guides and Fishing Wollaston Lake Lodge is a Five Star Fishing Resort with all the amenities to allow you to fish all day and relax in the evenings. While it is a remote location, the Wollaston Team has figured out a very efficient method of getting you to and from the Lake. The lake is teaming with fish and the guides know how to find them. The fly-outs offered on the lake keep things exciting and ever-changing. You have to try this place out!
