Region/Terrain Where You Hunt

Our Bird Hunting Habitat is Unparalleled.

One of the main reasons people choose Castle Valley Outdoors, over other pheasant hunting lodges, is our setting here in South-Central Utah, Our Lodge is at 6,200 feet elevation, surrounded by the most beautiful rock buttes and sandstone formations found anywhere. This beautiful area is known as the San Rafael one of the country's high mountain deserts.

Our bird hunting habitat provides a variety of hunting opportunities. You will be able to hunt in the traditional western walk up with a variety of fields. From river bottoms with sage and willow to grain and grass fields, you will find the terrain that fits your style of hunting. All managed to provide excellent cover for the birds and a productive and scenic hunt for you.

We have a variety of game to hunt from upland birds including pheasant, chukar, and quail to big game hunts.

We go to great lengths to preserve and manage our habitat so that our pheasants flush well and fly strong. We have the best team of expert guides in the country - people who grew up here and know the terrain and habitat. This is the reason people keep coming back year after year.

Recognized by Gun Dog Magazine for having the best hunting guides and trained bird dogs in the country, your days in the field will be as successful as they are memorable.

On-site Activities

ATV: Hop onto one of our Yamaha Rhino four-wheelers and follow the switchbacks up the mountain behind the cabins, or cruise down the road to get up close and personal with grazing elk. See our ATV tour rates.

Sporting Clays: Whether you're looking to practice up prior to going pheasant hunting, refine your wingshooting skills or shooting clays for the first time, our 5-stand range creates the perfect setting. Different levels of difficulty invite all shooters through novice to the seasoned veteran wingshooter to test their shotgunning skills.

Rifle Golf: Nothing is closer to true hunting, and is as much fun than shooting at life size iron targets of deer, Elk, antelope and many other animals at varying ranges to test your rifle prowess. Come play a game of golf with your rifle and see who can complete the course with the least amount of shots at targets from 50 to 1000 yards away.

Golf: A challenging par 36, 3,000-yard course is located just a few miles away. The fairways follow the hills and natural terrain on the edge of scenic Millsite Reservoir. The course features colorful cliffs and dramatic elevation changes, with some challenging holes.

Yard activities: Horseshoes, boules, croquet, badminton, golf, trap shooting.

Reading: Cozy up with a book of cowboy stories or western lore. Our small library may just hook you onto Louis L'Amour, Zane Gray, or Will Rogers. We also have descriptive guides to local wildlife and wildflowers.

Porch sitting: After a day of riding or hunting, take a few moments to relax and watch evening shadows creep across the hills.

We also do cattle drives and other western adventures. Let us know what kind of experience you want and we will customize a trip for you.

Lodging, Meals, and Accommodations

The rustic yet luxurious accommodations and amenities at Castle Valley Outdoors are just what you need after a successful hunt, fishing excursion, breaking clays or a relaxing round of golf at the nearby Millsite Golf Course.

Guests can relax by the Lodge's stone fireplace in comfortable leather couches and chairs while admiring reproductions of petroglyphs from some of the local ancient cultures illustrated on the walls. Some find themselves drawn to the activity room located on the second level of the lodge where you can enjoy a drink while participating in a round of billiards or other games.

Enjoy a home cooked meal in the dining room while you recount the days' adventures.

With views of the colorful rock cliffs through oversized picture windows, you gaze out over a well-stocked fishing pond and open fields where you might spot an occasional mule deer or pheasant or turkey in the morning hours as a bald eagle circles above with outstretched wings riding the currents of the wind.

Because Castle Valley Outdoors is one of only a handful of Orvis-Endorsed Wingshooting Lodges across the country, your all-inclusive vacation is sure to provide a rewarding experience.

With a commitment to your comfort and needs, Castle Valley Outdoors does it right.

As the aroma of country bacon, ham and cheese omelets or hand-made sour dough pancakes fills the air, you and your group will find yourselves eager to enjoy another hearty meal prepared by our excellent kitchen staff.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Executive Retreat Castle Valley Outdoors was a fantastic location to hold a business retreat. The spectacular lodge provided options for our meetings from lower level cozy couches with large big screen TV for presentations to the main level where discussions could take place, also a large loft area to change things up. The property manager and incredible cooking staff for all our homemade meals was amazing, I would give them all a 5+++ star review. They allowed for dietary needs without compromising flavor for all. Private rooms with bathrooms were perfect for us, very clean and comfortable. Our activity was skeet shooting which was convenient having it just outside the lodge. The large firepit was a great option for our evening relaxing time and star gazing. I was the meeting planner and was very impressed and happy with the entire experience. We hope to return again next year!

Linda who runs the kitchen should own a restaurant, she is an incredible cook, bake and got us anything we asked for! Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great experience Jim and his entire staff gave our group a fantastic experience. From the food, to the accommodations, to the guides, and to the dogs, it is something that every Hunter should experience at least once in their life. In the morning we hunted over 4 German Shorthairs and in the afternoon we hunted over four different German Shorthairs. Our guide, Greg, did an outstanding job of finding the birds and handling the dogs. I would not have changed a thing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful experience, again! Myself and 2 friend arrived on 1/9/21 for a Cow Elk hunt. I went to Castle Valley Outfitter's last year for the same hunt and was not disappointed. This year it was only 3 of us in whole lodge. We met our guides Austin, Drake and Devin. All 3 were knowledgeable, fun and extremely professional. We went out Monday missed a few opportunities but got 2 on Tuesday and 1 on Wednesday. Linda who was the Chef, cooked us wonderful dinners, made us bag lunches with great sandwiches. The Pheasant fingers are the best! I saw Jim and he is as nice and a welcoming individual you can meet. I love the lodge and the property. I cannot describe the beauty this time of year without encouraging others to take part. Whether you're Pheasant, Chuckar, Elk hunting, fishing or sightseeing, Castle Valley is outstanding! I will be back next year!
