The Story

Winter comes but once a year. Greet it warmly. Striking a perfect balance between rugged and refined does not happen simply by chance. But when it does occur, the results can be nothing short of extraordinary. Our hip-length black shearling-lined leather coat reveals its rugged character immediately. Its goatskin, slightly buffed, displays a fine pebble grain while offering a sumptuous hand. A double collar creates a bib effect and provides excellent protection from the elements. The heavy-gauge antiqued brass zipper feels substantial, and opens to reveal a luxurious shearling-lined interior. Calfskin trim, tanned with natural oils and waxes, will develop a handsome patina, and only gets better with time. Storm handwarmer pockets are perfectly placed. Interior storage options include two pockets, one with a secure snap closure. Shearling-lined leather coat for men in dark brown.

Goatskin shell. Calfskin trim. Shearling lining. Polyester insulation. Acetate sleeve lining. Professionally clean. Vernon, California.

Regular even sizes: 40-48; about 29¾" long in size medium.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 4.5 Stars - Handsome Practical Coat - 1 Minor Flaw I live out in horse country, VA, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I am out in the woods almost every day, and wanted a sturdy warm coat that I could wear on the mountain but be nice enough to also wear in the city. I originally bought the Bedford but ultimately returned it and got this coat instead. Although I think the Bedford is a handsome coat, I find the Jack Frost to be more practical. The Jack Frost exterior is leather (shearling lined) and not sueded shearling, so I am less concerned about scraping against tree limbs. I am also less concerned about getting caught in a light rain (although I would generally avoid wearing a leather jacket in the rain). Also, the sueded shearling of the Bedford tends to stretch on a hanger (yes, the hanger that Orvis provided with the coat), whereas the Jack Frost leather seems less prone to stretching. One more thing, the Jack Frost has 2 inside chest pockets for your phone and sunglasses, while the Bedford doesn't. I think this is a true design flaw in the Bedford. The only flaw with the Jack Frost is that it does not have a loop in the collar to hang the coat on a hook. The Bedford also doesn't have one. A very strange oversight on the part of the designer/manufacturer. I don't like having to fold and stuff my coat in the gym locker. I'll have to find a leather worker to sew one in on my coat. For sizing, order down a size. I am 5'9" 200 lbs. muscular build. I have a 49" chest and wear a 44 suit, but a 42 Jack Frost fits perfectly over just a tshirt or a couple of layers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 4.5 Stars Jack Frost Jacket This is a great looking jacket. I have received several compliments on it. I wish Orvis would do a half star system as I would rate it 4.5 stars. But I cannot give a perfect score, here's whyl The acetate lined sleeves is skimping on a coat that cost over two thousand dollars.Period. This would be a perfect coat had the sleeves been shearling as in the body of the coat. I have walked in 10 degree wind chill at night. My torso is warm, even in a sweater my arms became slightly cool. If you close the coat all the way, the zipper tends to make scratch marks on the brown calfskin which is however a very attractive feature of this coat. My B-3 Bomber jacket by Orvis is the warmest Orvis coat I have, the sleeves are done in shearling. I have walked in -5 F and been completely warm. If Orvis would decide to line these sleeves in shearling, they'd have the ultimate perfect coat. This coat is very heavy, I'd sell this and buy another if they'd put the shearling in the sleeves.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My new favorite coat i got this coat just in time for the cold weather and it's both really warm and really comfortable. Fit is perfect - I'm 6 feet 175 pounds and the size 40 is just right. It seems very well made and the 2 colors of leather really add to give it a nice look. If I could change anything I would have put a zipper or snap closure on the front pockets. That being said I'm really happy that I splurged on this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jacket I received this jacket just before Christmas and was surprised on how well it looked in person. The fit was perfect, and the jacket prove to be extremely warm and comfortable. I was also impressed with the quality of the material. Right away I knew it was not made in China. This jacket is good old US quality and that makes a difference. I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend this jacket to anyone who is looking for a good quality jacket that is made to last a lifetime.
